In 2023, the number of International Baccalaureate (IB) candidates reached a total of 179,917 globally. The average score obtained by these candidates was 30.24, reflecting a decline from the previous year's average of 31.98. Notably, the number of candidates achieving a perfect score diminished to 179, in contrast to the 640 candidates who accomplished this feat in 2022.

 

This significant decrease can be attributed to the IB's return to its standard grading requirements in 2019, abandoning the grading adjustments implemented in response to pandemic-related disruptions observed in 2021 and 2022.

 

In Hong Kong, where the IB Diploma Programme is offered by 38 schools, this year's examination saw the participation of 2,275 candidates. Hong Kong has consistently showcased exceptional IB performance, and this year is no exception. However, the number of candidates attaining a perfect score of 45 dropped substantially to 23, as compared to the previous year's figure of 93.
